Intelligence is Good, Right?

Breath On Paper

But there is a spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them, that makes them intelligent. Job 32:8

This word intelligence is a puzzle to me. It means the ability to learn and understand. And it can also mean the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one’s environment. It doesn’t mean that you do these things just that you have the ability to. Sort of like having knowledge but not using it wisely.

In an effort to learn more I googled something that I’ve been struggling with. How do intelligent people reason away God?

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”Ephesians 5:8

When my sweet sister in Christ, Tracy McDonald, asked me to write as a guest blogger, I responded with an excited YES! I love an opportunity to share the words of Jesus as they flow freely from my rescued heart. Tracy gave me the word “Wanted” to write about.

My first thought was “Wanted” is past tense, defined as a tense expressing an action that has happened or a state that previously existed.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Don’t Believe What You See

Breath On Paper

image“I am FAITHFUL.”

Faith is the confident obedience in God’s Word. When we have confidence that what He said is true regardless of what the circumstance looks like at the moment, or what the conditions are, that is faith. Now to develop our faithfulness God will often have a time before when He spoke it, and when you see it. God spoke to Abraham and He said 430 years from now your descendants are going to come into this land and they are going to possess it. Abraham believed the call of God to go to this place, even though he did not know where he was going.

Hebrews Chapter 11 is full of by faith people, who believed God. While I love to read the stories of all these people who lived by faith in this chapter, the stories continue in our lives today. Each one of us…

1-2-3 Jump!

Breath On Paper

It’s a hot and sunny day. The bright sun beating down on the back of your neck and the sweat dripping from  your forehead begs you to inch just a little closer.  As you begin to ponder that thought your mind shifts to the deep end of the pool and notices a group of kids looking up at the diving board and chanting “cannonball! cannonball!”unnamed

He walks to the edge of the diving board carefully placing his toes in just the right spot. He takes a deep breath, leaps into the air, knees to his chest secured ever so tightly by his arms and he hits the water with the biggest splash. His head emerges from underneath the water with a grin from ear to ear knowing his mission is complete.

As he comes up for air, you wish you were more like him: Fearless. Instead of watching…

Gifted Beyond Compare

Breath On Paper

During introductions at the beginning of a small group, I introduced myself as “a gifted and talented teacher.”  After noticing a few raised eyebrows and a funny look from a co-leader, I quickly corrected that statement to say, “I am a teacher of gifted and talented students.”

The fact is, more often than not, I will put myself down rather than build myself up.  I don’t usually toot my own horn. I tend to fall into that enemy laid trap of comparison to others.

God has things to say about both of those mindsets.

You are Forgiven

Breath On Paper

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18, 19

My husband and I were 30 when we got married so I didn’t want to wait too long to add children to our family. It proved to be more difficult than either of us expected. So off to the doctors we went. They did all the tests but couldn’t find a medical reason. It was during this frustrating time that I really understood the forgiveness of God.

The desire to have a child and feel a life growing under my heart was so incredibly powerful. More than any drink or drug, it ruled my every…

The Power of Being Hopeful

Breath On Paper

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. – Hebrews 6:19

This is one of my favorite verses. This verse reminds me of the power and the promise of our Heavenly Father.unnamed

What is hope? Hope to me is an all-knowing attitude that something good is and will happen despite how things may look. The image in my mind was not that of the familiar boat in the storm with the anchor securely keeping it in place but the image of a child’s playground game. I’ve never played this game or seen this game played. I could not shake this image from my mind.
